IKEA may not be the first furniture store that comes to mind when you think of unique homeware, but its latest collection, The OMEDELBAR, will take you by surprise.

A few months earlier, IKEA announced its unexpected collaboration with one of the most influential stylists and activists in fashion industry, Bea Åkerlund, who was the designer behind the stunning costumes worn by world-famous celebrities such as Madonna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

“B. WHO YOU ARE’ is about embracing yourself, no matter what the world thinks of you. It’s about individuality and creativity — two important cornerstones of OMEDELBAR.” said Bea Åkerlund.

Bringing her personality to the forefront, she designed each piece with her endless creativity, aiming to create a decorative space that captures the sensuality and style. With all manner of black and burgundy shades as well as sleek stripes, this limited-edition collection pays an ode to traditional opulence and Hollywood glamour with a twist of mysterious modern.

Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, the collection offers a series of quirky home accessories that seems to be plucked out from our childhood fantasies — think cute upside-down hats as vases and an oversized version of the rabbit’s pocket watch as a wall clock. Other highlights include the kissy-lips pillows, luxe golden clothes racks, wicked leathered armchairs and fierce leopard-print rugs.

All in all, this fashion-forward take on furniture has been thought-provoking for all the right reasons. If you’re looking for a stylish way to incorporate edgy, dark drama into your home, look no further than Ikea’s OMEDELBAR collection.

The collection is now available in Bangkok at Ikea Bangna.
