HARNN Oriental Rose Facial Mist

In spite of how we view Songkran in its modern practice – streets filled with people having fun, water fights, dangerous driving and copious amounts of drinking – the very Thai tradition of Songkran is sacred and is a symbol of new beginnings, marking the start of a new year. The image of honouring the elderly by gently pouring water over their hands, giving alms to monks and releasing fish and birds also comes to mind. And something else that is sacred, that is also often associated with this time of year, is the distinctly refreshing smell of a pure natural rose. I instantly appreciated the impact HARNN, one of Thailand’s leading natural spa brands was trying to make when it released this Oriental Rose Facial Mist as a gesture to welcome the month of Songkran. With the key ingredient being centifolia rose, the facial mist is highly addictive, in that it not only cools my face when I spray it during this very hot time, but it also simply smells divine. With my face hydrated and its radiance on the up, I can’t think of a better way to prepare for the welcoming of the Thai new year. Available at all HARNN stores nationwide. – Catherine Napalai Faulder, Managing Editor

A.Lange & Söhne Richard Lange Jumping Seconds

A.Lange & Söhne unveiled their second store in Southeast Asia this week, located in the heart of Bangkok at Siam Paragon. Being our resident watch writer (and our resident German), I was excited to attend the opening event, with my face turning into a quick heart-eye emoji on spotting the German watchmaker’sSIHH 2019 novelties on show at the boutique. Sure, the Lange 1 25th Anniversary is the showstopper, and the iconic Zeitwerk surely captured many eyes, but my personal time-stopper was the Richard Lange Jumping Seconds (THB 2,625,000). The timepiece features the iconic jumping seconds mechanism — a classic and precise complication used formerly in pocket watches — yet still manages to appear cool and contemporary. The white gold case is home to a deep black dial with contrasting red accents, pulling emphasis to the smallest unit of time: the seconds. “Are they that important?” I hear you ask, and to answer that wonder, I’ll riddle you this: some of life’s most defining moments last only a matter of seconds. Here’s a timepiece that acknowledges the measurement of that beauty. — Lisa Gries, Staff Writer

Saint Laurent Paige Sandals

I think most people would agree with me when I say Saint Laurent make the best heels. Just looking at how popular their classic Tribute Sandals are will give you a pretty good indication that Saint Laurent shoes are for every woman. Kicking it up a notch – as well as a couple of inches – these new suede platforms (THB 50,000) from the latest SS19 collection still have that all-important comfort and surprising versatility of Saint Laurent high heels. The star print reminds me a bit of Bowie, so for me the shoes even come with a great personal soundtrack. The circus colours and ballet-style leather ankle straps take me back to old childhood pleasures, although there’s also something of a Harlequin mischief to keep things saucy. Available at all of Saint Laurent’s branches in Bangkok. – Karn Chatikavanij, Style Writer

Montblanc’s PIX Red Rollerball

As a writer, a pen is my weapon. There’s just something about looking at a text written in ink that absolutely fills my writer soul with joy and spirited satisfaction. My favourite pen at the moment is the red-hued PIX Red Rollerball (THB 9,900) by Montblanc. With the beautiful gold-coated design and the red precious resin, the pen is so sleek and stylish that it makes me want to write for days on end. If you’re a pen person, you’ll know also how a brand-new pen can make you feel like a new person. Right now, I’m still eyeing on other cool ones from the new Montblanc collection that are equally as cool and chic as the one I absolutely adore right now. – Kankanit Wichiantanon, Staff Writer.

Alice + Olivia Reversible Bomber Jacket

If you’re a jet-setting fashionista, you’ll know that there are few things more wonderful than a reversible jacket. Save on luggage space with this two-for-one deal from Alice + Olivia’s ‘Passport to Wonderland’ collection. Collaborating with Booking.com and artist Keith Haring last year, founding designer Stacey Bendet, has always had travel and pop art close to her heart. Her current collection bursts with whimsical prints that transport us to various iconic cities from Tokyo to Provence to Carayes. On one side, this reversible cropped bomber (THB 24,900) has a graphic eye motif on a refreshing sky blue, while the other side is a colour blocking pattern that combines a New York jazziness with modern pop-art. I have a real weakness for bold prints, and if they’re on pieces that are travel-friendly as well as travel-inspired, then that’s definitely going in my wardrobe. Available at Central Embassy. – KC
