Buffets often get a bad rap for sacrificing quantity for quality, and if you have a small stomach, they’re definitely not for you. However, if a decadent spread of five-star luxury eats is what you’re after, the Sunday Champagne brunch at Harbourside, InterContinental Hong Kong is the stuff of dreams for bottomless foodies.

Served every Sunday from 11:30am to 3pm, Harbourside is one of the most sun-lit venues in Hong Kong with wraparound views of Victoria Harbour. Bright and airy, it’s a refreshing change from some other buffets we’ve experienced in darker settings.

There are two options for the Sunday brunch buffet — with free-flowing fresh juices and soft drinks, or with free-flowing Perrier-Jouet Champagne, beer and wine in addition to that for just an extra HK$50 per person.

Start at the sushi counter, where the chef prepares fresh-sliced sashimi and handmade sushi right in front of you, and then select your choice of chilled fresh seafood including lobster, Alaskan king crab legs and cocktail shrimp.

Meat-lovers will dig the carving stations with long-bone USDA prime beef, rack of lamb, honey ham and roasted chicken, and don’t forget about the charcuterie counter with Italian and Spanish ham and salami presented with a selection of 12 French cheeses.

Then there’s baked oysters, fresh-grilled lobster, Korean seafood specialties and a selection of Asian dishes (our favorites included the XO sauce fried rice and steamed garoupa). If you’ve still got space, finish off with a trip to the dessert buffet, where fresh-made waffles, a chocolate fountain, fruit salad and a dizzying array of beautifully crafted cakes await.

The Sunday Champagne brunch at Harbourside is priced at HK$898 (with free-flow Champagne, wine and beer) and HK$848 (with free-flow juice and soft drinks). Served from 11:30am to 3pm, be sure to get there early to spend a lazy and very delicious afternoon.
