The second edition of Asia’s 50 Best Bars has just been announced, and the continent has a new #1 bar: Singapore’s Manhattan, a sexy spot with ace cocktails located inside the Regent Singapore. The annual ranking debuted last year, when Singapore’s 28 Hongkong Street took the top spot; this year, it’s moved a few slots down to #4. Filling out the top 10 spots are Speak Low, High Five, Indulge Experimental Bistro, Operation Dagger, Quinary, Stockton, The Union Trading Company, and Lobster Bar.

Asia's 50 Best Bars 2017
At #7, Quinary is Hong Kong’s highest-ranking bar.

Hong Kong is well represented on this year’s list, with a total of eight bars, comparable to last year’s nine. Aside from Quinary, Stockton, and Lobster Bar, other Hong Kong spots that were honoured include The Pontiac, Zuma, 8 1/2 Otto e Mezzo Bombana, The Chinnery, and Dr. Fern’s Gin Parlour, the latter three of which are all new entries. Honi Honi, Ori-gin, Mahalo Tiki Lounge, and The Envoy, meanwhile, were honoured last year but fell off of this year’s ranking.

The big winner is Singapore, which dominates Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2017 with a total of 13 spots: Manhattan, 28 Hongkong Street, Operation Dagger, Tippling Club, Atlas, Gibson, Employees Only, Native, Jigger & Pony, D.Bespoke, Nutmeg & Clove, The Other Room, and Sugarhall. Last year, Hong Kong and Singapore were tied with nine bars on the list, so here’s hoping we knock our rival off its throne next year. Shanghai, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Bali, and Bangkok also fared well, with multiple entries on the list.

Unlike The World’s 50 Best Bars, which draws on a global perspective, Asia’s 50 Best Bars is created by nearly 200 industry insiders (bartenders, bar consultants, brand ambassadors, journalists, and other experts) who live and work in 14 countries across the continent. Each of them is asked to list what they consider to be the seven best bars in Asia; the ranking is then created based on the number of votes each bar received.
