It almost goes without saying that Hongkongers are experts at coping with busy schedules and juggling work, family and social commitments — but even then, laundry still ends up being the bane of our existence, albeit one that can’t be ignored. When it comes to saving time with domestic chores, German brand Miele has always led the fray with its array of advanced home appliances; after all, it prides itself on its time-honoured heritage and a wealth of experience dating back to 1899. Whether it’s a smart oven that cooks your dishes perfectly in a condensed amount of time, or a stylish and effective two-in-one washer-dryer, you can bet on its products to be synonymous with reliability and efficiency.

Miele - WT1

For time-strapped individuals, Miele’s newest WT1 washer-dryer allows you to go about your day while your laundry practically takes care of itself. A 4kg load of clothing will be completely washed and dried in just 3 hours, and there’s no need to hang your wet laundry to dry or drop it in a separate dryer, plus there’s no possibility of mistakenly leaving a load of wet clothes in the machine. (For any simple wash, the load maximum is at 7kg.) The patented washer-dryer has also been tested for 5,000 wash and 5,000 drying cycles in a variety of programmes, equivalent to lasting a good 20 years’ worth of repeated use.

Messing about with your own detergent has also become a thing of the past. The WT1’s new TwinDos detergent dispensing system automatically uses just the right amount of laundry detergent, while also using an average of 30% less detergent compared to the traditional method of adding it by hand. The machine releases your soap at a precise time and quantity depending on the weight of the load and your selected washing programme. The machine also incorporates specific detergents — UltraPhase 1 and 2 — for deep cleaning and colour protection, and brightening and whitening, respectively.

When the weather calls for breaking out the knitwear, the WT1 also ensures all your seasonal and delicate fabrics get the right care and attention they deserve. Miele has formulated specific capsules made for special garments, whether it be for wool, silk, down or for sportswear and outerwear. In particular, tech performance fabrics or functional textiles such as GoreTex can be easily and comprehensively cleaned right at home. As a result, there are fewer garments you’ll need to take to professional cleaners, saving you time and money in the process.

The WT1 also works to rule out the need to iron your clothes at the end of a wash-dry cycle. With the new SteamCare function paired with Miele’s proprietary honeycomb inner drum surface, garments are kept looking like new with gentle handling. Clothes are freshened up with steam to smooth out wrinkles, thus speeding up the ironing process or, in some cases, eliminating the need to iron altogether.
