The indie music scene in the country is a thriving one, with different genres being explored, fresh musicians debuting, more music festivals and performance spaces coming up, and new releases making their way to playlists. As this landscape burgeons, the past few weeks in particular have been buzzing – here are all the new indie music tracks that you should be listening to.

    Golden by Kavya Trehan

In less than a year, Kavya Trehan has released her second single, Golden. While her debut single, Underscore, came out last August and relied heavily on dream pop and a fun, girl at-the-brink-of-maturity vibe, Golden is more evolved. The singer-songwriter continues with the whimsical, non-structured lyrics, and her voice has a sober depth to it. Not just the music, the visuals are stunning too – check out her Instagram for more of them.

    Amber by F16s

The indie scene’s favourite band, and often on the ‘Band to lookout for’ lists (almost everyone I have interviewed has recommended them), the F16s have returned after two years with a peek into their new EP — WKND FRNDS. The animated video for the song, Amber, is an impactful representation of today’s times and the influence web and e-commerce have. The F16s’ music is a mix of blurry and pointed tunes, high on beats yet melodious, and their signature style features in Amber too. The full EP releases soon – check out the video in the meantime.

Science City tour by Parekh & Singh

The duo has come out with a new LP, Science City, which promises 11 new songs. The first three – Summer Skin, Hello, and Crystalline – are already out. Their Wes Andreson-esque aesthetics continue, and the dream-pop LP is about ‘a retro-future world of doctors and scientists, quantum mechanics, and plans to unlock the secrets of the universe’. Clean vocals meet hazy beats in these songs, and you can hear them live too because Parekh & Singh are touring across the country till the end of this month. Catch updates on their songs and their live performances on their website.

Dubfounded by Ravana and Jumme Khan

Amrrass Records has brought together an unlikely pair, a Delhi-based music producer (Ravana) and a Jogi folk poet from Alwar (Jumme Khan). Khan’s poetry is recomposed with Ravana’s multi-genre music. Think folk poetry juxtaposed with dubstep, reggae, drums, and blues. The typical darkness of Ravana’s music is mellowed by Khan’s soulful words, and you can listen to the songs not just online but also on the vinyl records they’re producing.

    Azadi Records tour

Celebrating their second anniversary, Azadi Records are touring pan-India this week. Covering Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune, and Delhi, they’ll be playing from May 9-12. Along with everyone associated with the record company, they’re also bringing along British rapper Rodney P and hip-hop producer Skitz. Rappers Prabh Deep, RAK, and Ahmer, hip-hop duo Seedhe Maut, beatmakers SO Fire and Sez on the Beat are few of the indie artists who’ll be performing during the tour.

An innate love for travel and food has translated into many a trips since childhood for Megha; it also fed her curiosity to know about local cultures. When not writing, she is on the lookout for three things: A great dark chocolate dessert, a beautiful pool where she can practice her backstroke, and art that she can save up for.
