Say goodbye to spending hours in the morning trying to decide on the perfect outfit for work. Amazon has launched Echo Look, a style assistant device equipped with a hands-free camera and Alexa — a voice-activated program. The latter takes the role of your personal fashion consultant by helping you put together an outfit that best suits your skin tone and body shape.

Echo Look
Amazon’s Echo Look is the answer to your first world wardrobe problems.

How it works is pretty intriguing: Simply get Alexa to take a full-length photo or video of yourself in your spiffy ensemble. Echo Look comes with built-in LED lighting and a depth-sensing camera, so you can be assured of getting the most flattering and accurate view of your outfit.

The camera even blurs out the background in your photo, so you have an Instagram-worthy shot — which means you no longer have to take mirror selfies or rely on your partner to snap a million photos for your OOTD. Boyfriends of Instagram, Amazon has got your back here.

You can take full-length photos or short videos so you can see a 360-degree view of your outfit.

A companion app within Echo Look will help you view your outfit from every angle, as well as to compile a personal lookbook that will uploaded onto Amazon Cloud, so you can refer to it during your next wardrobe crisis. Style Check, another feature of the device, gives you a second opinion of what to wear by combining machine learning algorithms guided by Amazon’s team of fashion specialists with varied backgrounds in the fashion industry — including retail, editorial, styling and creative fields.

All you need to do is submit two photos for its opinion on which outfit looks best on you, and Style Check will offer a rating based on fit, colour, styling, and current trends. “Over time, these decisions get smarter through your feedback and input from our team of experienced fashion specialists,” said Amazon.

While Echo Look sounds like the perfect personal stylist you’ve never had, there has been some debate about privacy concerns surrounding it — as with every other smart home product out there. This device is designed to sit in your bedroom, after all. We don’t know about you, but this a trade-off we are willing to make.

The device, priced at S$279, is currently only available to American Amazon Prime members on an invitation-only basis. All we can do now is wait not-so-patiently for Echo Look to come to our sunny shores, so it can solve all of our morning wardrobe dilemmas. Find out more about Echo Look in the video below.
