A car is only as good as its driver, and if your car is a Ferrari, you better drive damn well. Thankfully, Berluti is here to not only make you look the part when you’re stepping out of that new Monza SP1, but also ensure you’re outfitted with the perfect driving shoe so you’ll no longer have an excuse for that shoddy overtaking.

Unveiled at Paris Fashion Week in Berluti’s Paris flagship at 9, Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré, the collection of what is dubbed “the perfect gentleman driver shoe” is a result of a partnership between two long-time friends. As it turns out, Antoine Arnault, chief executive officer of Berluti, and John Elkann, chairman of Ferrari, used to live in the same building, two floors apart from each other. Like Ferrari, Berluti saw humble beginnings that began in Italy before business flourished to become the emblematic shoe and bootmaker it’s known for today.

Launched — not coincidentally — in tandem with the retro-futuristic Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 special edition cars, the three key models capture the sophistication of dapper drivers in the ‘60s. The Oxfords in rich Venezia leather, slip-ons in three colours of graphite black, brown and Berlinetta Red, and a pair of Chelsea boots all embody Ferrari’s classic curves, with grippy industrial-looking rubber soles and carbon-fibre twill inside. These are also the lightest shoes that Berluti has created, a thoughtful gesture should you be trapped in the cockpit of a Prancing Horse during an unfortunate gridlock.

This isn’t the first time an esteemed fashion label and car marque have branched out to empower drivers sartorially. Ermenegildo Zegna and Maserati’s recently-launched Fall/Winter 2018 collection goes beyond car interior furnishing to also include well-appointed accessories and travel-friendly clothing. Like the Berluti collaboration, the selection was a definitive showcase of premium Italian style and quality.

The capsule collection will be available from next month in a select few Berluti boutiques and online.
